10) THE GOLD RUSH STORYBOARD/PLANNING/EDITING/FINAL CUT
As a pair, my partner and I were excited to undertake this task. We were intrigued by the idea that our replication had to be silent to match the original footage (The Gold Rush). It is one of the most popular films made in the silent era, and therefore it requires more attention to figure and expression (or generally misé en scene) than more modern films - this is because words cannot be used to fill in any gaps that actions cannot portray.
We asked our friends Eddie, Elsa, Catherine and Scarlet to help us with this. We recorded in a drama studio in our school which gave us maximum space for our production. I really like the outcome of our project as it projects the story well regarding the fact it is silent. Lots of expression is used which allows this to happen. I am quite irritated by the low quality of the video in its final stage, however it has taught me not to convert my videos into a certain file type (MPEG4).
